The String Instruments Department offers an innovative and diverse program of study for the orchestral instruments violin, viola, cello, and double bass in the bachelor’s program for orchestral instruments (8 semesters), master’s degree program for orchestral instruments (4 semesters), and concert exam (4 semesters).
The focus of the program of study is the artistic training in the major and minor subjects, supported by audition training, participation in various ensembles of the School of Music, master classes, and field trips. Mandatory music theory subjects ensure a solid training, which can be expanded through numerous courses at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz.
The incorporated Guitar Department at the School of Music consists of the bachelor’s program in Guitar (8 semesters) and the advanced master’s degree program “Guitar” (4 semesters).
During the program of study, participation in the university orchestra is compulsory in phases.
