Passing an aptitude test is the prerequisite for admission to the program of study in all degree programs. In the aptitude test, applicants must prove that they possess the artistic and music theory skills required for a music program of study. They should also demonstrate that they are able to achieve the intended study goal within the standard period of study. The legal framework for the implementation of the aptitude test is the Aptitude Test Regulations of the School of Music.

Depending on the degree program, aptitude tests can consist of several parts:

  • artistic-practical part (audition)
  • music theory part (ear training, harmony)
  • possibly further requirements (e.g. an admissions interview).

You can find the different requirements here: "Courses offered" or in our Download Center.

The aptitude tests take place on certain dates. In addition, we have provided you with tips on the examinations and offer preparatory courses. See below for more information.

There are no fees for the aptitude tests.

We have listed and answered some frequently asked questions in connection with the application and aptitude test here. If you have any further questions or are looking for personal advice, please contact the student advising office, we will be happy to help you!

We welcome international applicants! If you would like to obtain a degree at the School of Music, a number of other regulations must be observed in addition to passing the aptitude test. This concerns, among other things, your higher education entrance qualification and your German language skills.
