Admission requirements

1) Completed artistic degree program (grade of at least "very good", or 1.5 on the German grading scale) in the subject of Voice with a specialization in opera or concert or opera and concert in a diploma degree program or an at least two-year Master's degree program or a comparable degree program at a university, college of music, or an equivalent institute of higher education in Germany or abroad

2) Successful completion of a qualifying examination

Program objective The postgraduate course "Concert Exam" is intended to help students to extend and perfect the technical and artistic skills acquired during their course of studies to concert performance level.
Course structure

1. interim examination at end of the 2nd semester

2. interim examination during the 3rd semester

3. interim examination in the 4th semester

Course contents The degree program encompasses the subjects of voice and répétiteur work
Examination

Three interim examinations (see above);

3. interim examination public recital, by request replaced by an opera or oratorio performance in which the examination candidate must sing a main part, or an evening of lieder to be performed in the Rhine-Main area.

2. Requirements for the qualifying examination

On registering for the selection examination for the postgraduate Concert Exam course, a repertoire list must be submitted that focuses on concert, opera, or opera and concert as appropriate and covers all representative works studied by the applicant. The candidate will select the first piece for the selection examination from this repertoire list.  The board of examiners will select the remaining pieces totaling 30 minutes.

Repertoire list: Concert focus

  • Three completely studied oratorio parts
  • Four further oratorio arias
  • One concert aria by W.A. Mozart
  • Two opera arias
  • Eight lieder, including one by F. Schubert, one by H. Wolf, and one contemporary lied

Repertoire list: Opera focus

  • Two completely studied opera main parts (in the original language; the repertoire should cover at least three languages)
  • Five further opera arias
  • One concert aria
  • Two oratory arias, one by J.S. Bach or G.F. Handel
  • Four lieder, including one by F. Schubert, one by H. Wolf, and one contemporary lied

The repertoire must cover at least three languages.

  • Two completely studied opera main parts (in the original language; the repertoire should cover at least three languages)
  • Two completely studied oratory parts, one by J.S. Bach or G.F. Handel
  • One concert aria
  • Three opera arias
  • Eight lieder, including one by F. Schubert, one by H. Wolf, and one contemporary lied

The repertoire must cover at least three languages.
